Do you know what this vegetable is? I think my mum is the only person in the world who can make karela taste good!! She covers in Kashmiri masala paste and cooks in coconut oil. She also makes into a salad when raw. This weird ass bitter as f* veg doesn’t taste like anything else I can describe! It is actually from the gourd family and has been used to cleanse the body for thousands of years and is an ancient aide for diabetes, liver problems, skin problems as well as purifying the blood.
When I was little I was a fan of all veg including karela but my brother hated it (and still does). The nearest he got to it was using it as a toy ‘crocodile’ before my mum cooked it! It’s easy to see why! It’s also known as bitter gourd, bitter melon, goya, bitter squash and balsam pear. If you haven’t tried it, you should. And if it makes you screw up your face, just remember how good it is for you!👌😖😜
